When you're in the market for a new SUV, chances are you're interested in these vehicles because of the extra space they provide. Luckily for you, both the 2022 Audi Q5 and the VW Tiguan offer ample room for you and your passengers.

Before you can compare the passenger space of the Q5 vs. Tiguan, you'll first need to see how these vehicles measure in terms of exterior measurements.

PRO TIP: When shopping for an SUV, you'll need a vehicle that's large enough for passengers and cargo, but you'll also need an SUV small enough to make navigating the city streets of Florida a breeze.

In terms of exterior shape, the Tiguan and the Q5 are of comparable size:

  • Audi Q5 (length/width/height): 184.3 inches/74.5 inches/65.3 inches
  • VW Tiguan (length/width/height): 186.1 inches/72.4 inches/66.4 inches

So, how do these exterior measurements affect the space inside? Let's look!

Audi Q5 vs VW Tiguan Interior Dimensions

Q5

Tiguan

Headroom (front/rear)

38.1 inches/37.7 inches

38.2 inches/37.7 inches

Legroom (front/rear)

40.9 inches/38.0 inches

40.2 inches/36.6 inches

Shoulder Room (front/rear)

57.7 inches/56.5 inches

57.0 inches/55.9 inches

Since the Q5 and the Tiguan offer similar exterior measurements, you'll find fairly similar interior measurements when comparing the 5-passenger versions of these vehicles. That means, either the Q5 or the Tiguan is a good choice.

Packing Away Cargo

On top of near-matching passenger space dimensions, the Audi Q5 and VW Tiguan are also comparable in cargo carrying! With the seats up or down, you can fit large duffel bags, a set of golf clubs, or that new floor lamp you bought.

However, what sets them apart is how you can load your cargo. The Audi Q5 makes a power tailgate standard. On the other hand, the VW Tiguan only offers its hands-free liftgate as an available option.

The 2022 Audi Q5 and the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan both offer smooth rides, engaged handling, and powerful engines. However, while the VW Tiguan has just one engine option, the Q5 offers two.

As you can see, the Audi Q5 powers ahead of the Tiguan with its optional 2.0L 55 TFSI® 4-cylinder engine. Not only does this engine offer more oomph than the Tiguan, but it also provides enhanced fuel efficiency features since it is a plug-in hybrid engine.

The Tiguan offers no hybrid options.

When it comes to navigating slick surfaces, both vehicles can give you maximum traction. With quattro® all-wheel drive technology in the Q5 and 4MOTION® all-wheel drive capabilities in the VW Tiguan, power is distributed evenly among all four wheels when it's needed most.

However, while all-wheel drive is available in the Volkswagen, it comes standard in the Audi.

When you're thinking of getting a new car, you want to find one that can take you the distance. Fortunately, both the Audi Q5 and VW Tiguan offer similar gas mileages that will get you from Point A to Point B without making many stops in between.

  • 2022 Audi Q5 Gas Mileage: EPA-estimated 23 city and 28 highway MPG1
  • 2022 VW Tiguan Gas Mileage: EPA-estimated 22 city and 29 highway MPG

With near-identical city mileage ratings, you can commute to your city job in either model.

However, which one can keep you away from the pump longer? Well, the Q5 equips an 18.5-gallon fuel tank while the Tiguan has a 15.3-gallon fuel tank. With that being said, we think the Audi can keep you on the road longer thanks to being able to hold more gasoline.

Since you spend a lot of time inside the cabin of your SUV, you'll want a vehicle that provides the comfort you need. Fortunately, both SUVs offer features to ensure your comfort on even the longest commutes thanks to their premium amenities.

You can expect to find multi-zone climate control systems and available panoramic sunroofs with each SUV. While they are comparable features, the Q5 offers more with its standard 3-zone automatic climate control system. This gives second-row passengers the ability to set their preferred temperature, something the available Climatronic® dual-zone climate control system of the Tiguan can't offer.

Plus, considering the Q5 is a luxury SUV while the Tiguan is not, there are standard premium features you'll only find with the Q5, such as:

  • LED interior lighting package
  • Leather seats
  • Leather-wrapped gear selector

Thanks to these features, you'll likely find yourself more comfortable driving the Q5 than the Tiguan.
Audi Q5 vs Volkswagen Tiguan: Technologies

Technophiles will most likely appreciate the features found inside the Audi Q5 and the Volkswagen Tiguan.

They both come standard with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. With these smartphone integration features, you can send texts, access podcasts, and more without needing to touch your phone while driving.

Furthermore, all your media options will be displayed nicely in the Audi thanks to a standard 10.1-inch screen. Then, with the available Bang & Olufsen® 3D Premium Sound System, 19 speakers will blast your favorite music or turn-by-turn directions throughout the cabin.

Unfortunately, those same options may not be seen or heard as easily inside the VW SUV. That's because the standard infotainment screen is just 6.5 inches, while the available one is eight inches. Plus, the optional Fender® Premium Audio System has just nine speakers-about half the number inside the Q5.

To ensure the safe arrival of you and your passengers, the Audi Q5 and the VW Tiguan offer more than just entertainment technologies. With both SUVs, you'll have a collection of driver-assistive systems that act as a second set of eyes thanks to their strategically placed cameras and sensors.

Similar safety systems offered with both SUVs include:

  • Side assist
  • Parking system plus
  • High beam assist

With the exception of the Volkswagen's side assist feature, all aforementioned safety systems only come available on the Tiguan while they are standard on the Audi Q5.

On top of those features, the Q5 comes standard with Audi pre sense® basic, rear, and city. It's a monitoring system that can step in when an imminent collision is detected. This system can automatically close all windows, close the sunroof, and pretension the safety belts to help keep you and your passengers as safe as possible.

While the Tiguan's Intelligent Crash Response System is comparable to this Audi feature, it is only applied post-collision instead of before the accident occurs.

Not only are the 2022 Audi Q5 and the 2022 VW Tiguan great for daily drives and work commutes, but they're also great for when you're ready to spread your wings.

No matter if you're choosing to experience snow up north or visit another beach town, you can easily start up either vehicle with the push of a button. Both the Audi and the VW equip standard keyless entry systems!

If you're choosing to stay local, you can visit a nearby campground and bring along your toys too. However, you'll be able to tow heavier items with the Audi:

  • Audi Q5 Towing Capacity: 4,400 pounds
  • VW Tiguan Towing Capacity: 1,500 pounds

If you choose to go to a colder climate, the Audi Q5 may be better suited for those brisk morning starts thanks to its heated exterior mirrors and heat-insulating side and rear windows. Unfortunately, the VW Tiguan does not offer similar features. So, you'll want to stay local in the Tiguan.

Both the Q5 and the Tiguan are compact SUVs sure to give your travels around Miami, Miami Beach, and Hollywood, Florida, the upgrade they need. However, as you can see in our Q5 vs. Tiguan comparison, the 2022 VW Tiguan falls short of the Q5 in terms of power, comfort, and technologies.
