Outlook has exhausted all shared resources, please close all messaging applications and restart

Outlook is a great email client, but sometimes you might run into an error message that says “Out of memory or system resources.” This can be a frustrating problem, but fortunately, there are a few solutions that you can try. In this article, we’ll explore some of the most common solutions to the Outlook error “Out of memory or system resources.”

The Outlook error “Out of memory or system resources” is frequently caused when you connect too many large PST files to Outlook. This topic will be discussed in this post, and four possible solutions will be provided.

When you open a PST file in Outlook, the program will generally allocate some memory space to it as a cache to improve performance. In other words, each email account has a limit on the amount of storage available. As a result, when there is no more space left, Outlook displays the error “Out of memory or system resources.” Furthermore, apart from the shortage of memory, PST corruption is another significant problem.

1: Reduce the Number of Outlook PST Files Opened

In Outlook, there are two types of scenarios based on the number of opened PST files. One is that you’re opening over 15 PST files, all of which are more than 1 GB in size. The other is that Outlook has connected more than 50 smaller-sized PST files (about 300 MB). If your situation is one or the other, consider reducing the amount of PST files accessed in Outlook. As a result, you may close some outdated PST documents. There are two techniques at your disposal here.

  1. Close the PST files by right-clicking them in the Outlook mail navigation pane and using the popup context menu option.
  2. To delete your Outlook data files, open the “Account Settings” menu. Switch to the “Data Files” tab and then click the “Remove” button to remove your PST files.

2: Repair the PST file

In some cases, you may only need to open a PST file when you specifically need to access its contents. Alternatively, you can use the Inbox Repair Tool (scanpst.exe) to compact your PST files and reclaim some disk space.

3: Add More RAM

If your computer doesn’t have enough memory, Outlook will start swapping memory pages to the hard drive to make more room for new data. This will slow down your computer and may even cause the error “Out of Memory or System Resources.” You can buy more RAM from various online stores or local computer shops.

4: Delete Unnecessary Email Messages

If you haven’t used an email account for a long time, delete the messages in that account. This will free up some disk space and may solve the “Out of Memory or System Resources” error.

5: Disable Add-Ins

If you have a lot of add-ins installed in Outlook, one of them may be causing the error. To disable an add-in, follow these steps:

1. Open Outlook and click File > Options > Add-Ins.

2. In the Manage: drop-down list, select COM Add-Ins and click Go.

3. Select the add-in you want to disable and click Remove.

4. Click OK two times to close the dialog boxes.

6: Delete Unnecessary Files

Delete all the unnecessary files from your computer to free up some disk space. This may solve the “Out of Memory or System Resources” error.

7: Upgrade to a Newer Version of Outlook

If you’re still experiencing the error, try upgrading to a newer version of Outlook. A newer version may have features that can help resolve the issue.

8: Repair Your Outlook Installation

If none of the solutions listed above work, you may need to repair your Outlook installation. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open Control Panel and click Programs and Features.

2. Select Microsoft Office and click Change.

3. Click Repair and follow the instructions on the screen.

4. When the repair is finished, restart your computer.

9: Create a New Outlook Profile

If the previous solutions didn’t work, you can try creating a new Outlook profile. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Open Control Panel and click User Accounts.

2. Click Manage Another Account.

3. Click Create a New Account and follow the instructions on the screen.

4. In Outlook, go to File > Import and Export and choose Import from another program or file.

5. Select Personal Folder File (.pst) and click Next.

6. Browse to the location of your old .pst file and click Import.

7. When the import is finished, restart your computer.

10: Here are some other few solutions:

1. Close any unnecessary programs.

If you have a lot of programs running in the background, this can use up your computer’s memory and cause Outlook to error out. Close any programs that you don’t need right now, and try sending an email again.

2. Add more memory to your computer.

One way to fix the “Out of memory or system resources” error is to add more memory/space to your computer. This will give your system more resources to work with and should help to resolve the issue.

3. Use a different email program.

If you’re getting the Outlook error message even when you’re not sending a large file, you might want to try using a different email program. Outlook might just be too resource-intensive for your system, and another program might work better.

4. Repair your Outlook installation.

i. Open Control Panel and go to Programs and Features.

ii. Scroll down to Microsoft Office 2013 or Microsoft Office 365, depending on the version of Outlook you’re using, and click Change.

iii. Click Repair and follow the instructions on your screen.

iv. Restart your computer after the repair is complete.

v. Reinstall Outlook.

If repairing your installation doesn’t work, you might need to reinstall Outlook altogether. This will reset all of your Outlook settings to their defaults, so make sure you have a backup of any important data before you begin.

i. Go to the Microsoft website and download the latest version of Outlook.

ii. Open Control Panel and go to Programs and Features.

iii. Click Microsoft Office 2013 or Microsoft Office 365, depending on the version of Outlook you’re using, and click Change.

iv. Click Repair and follow the instructions on your screen.

v. Restart your computer after the repair is complete.

vi. Reinstall Outlook.

5: Free up disk space.

If your computer doesn’t have enough free disk space, it can cause the “Out of memory or system resources” error message to appear. Make sure your computer has at least 500MB of free space, and try sending an email again.

6. Upgrade to a newer version of Windows.

If none of the above solutions work, it might be time to upgrade to a newer version of Windows. With a newer version of Windows, you’ll have more system resources available to run Outlook without any errors.

7. Disable Cached Exchange Mode.

If you’re using Cached Exchange Mode, try disabling it. This could free up some system resources and allow Outlook to run without any errors.
