Are you interested in running more advanced data analysis in Excel? If so, you can add the Analysis ToolPak to your current version of Excel. It provides several analysis functions including Anova, Correlation, Descriptive Statistics, Histogram, Regression, and T-tests.

After opening Excel, click File.

At the bottom of the File menu, click Options.

Click Add-Ins and then Go… .

This opens an additional pop-up window that allows you to select the Analysis ToolPak. After selecting the add-in, click OK.

After you have added the Analysis ToolPak to your Excel software, you will find it on the Data tab. Click on Data and then Data Analysis.

The Data Analysis function is extremely useful in Microsoft Excel. However, you might notice that you don’t have access to this function. For example, you can’t see Data Analysis in Excel, Data Analysis is greyed out, or Data Analysis is missing. Don’t worry, there’s a solution to this issue.

How to load and enable the Data Analysis ToolPak?

First, before you’re able to run Data Analysis on your worksheets, you need to enable the ToolPak from your settings. This process is different depending on your platform. Proceed to the appropriate guide and follow the steps to enable the ToolPak.

Load the Data Analysis ToolPak in Excel (Windows)

For our guide, we’ll be using the latest Excel 2019 release. The steps may vary from your software, depending on your version. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need any further help.

  1. Open Microsoft Excel. You should be redirected to the default Home screen. Here, click on Options found in the left-side pane.

  2. If you can’t see this button right away, your Excel window may be too small to display all menu options. In this case, click on More… and then select Options.

  3. Use the left-side pane and switch to the Add-ins tab. You should see a number of available add-ins for your Excel version.

  4. Select Excel Add-ins from the Manage drop-down menu, and then click on the Go… button.

  5. A new pop-up window should appear. Here, make sure to place a checkmark next to the Analysis ToolPak. When done, click on the OK button.

  6. Done! You now have the Data Analysis ToolPak enabled in Excel 2019 for Windows.

Load the Data Analysis ToolPak in Excel (macOS)

For our guide, we’ll be using the latest Excel 2019 for Mac release. The steps may vary from your software, depending on your version. Don’t hesitate to contact us if you need any further help.

Note: The Data Analysis ToolPak is not available in Excel 2011 for Mac. If you can’t find the ToolPak, chances are that you’re currently running this version.

  1. Open Excel for Mac. In order to access the add-ins, you need to open an existing workbook or create a new one.

  2. Use the header interface and click on Tools. Select Excel Add-ins from the dropdown menu.

  3. A pop-up window should appear. Here, ensure that you place a checkmark next to Analysis ToolPak. When done, click the OK button.
  4. Done! You successfully enabled the Data Analysis ToolPak in Excel for Mac.

How to use the Data Analysis ToolPak?

After enabling the ToolPak for professional and complex data analysis, you can begin using it. The instructions below work on all versions of Excel that currently support this add-in.

  1. Open a workbook, or create a new one. Ensure that your workbook has data in it before you use the analysis tools.
  2. Switch to the Data tab in your ribbon interface. This should be located between Formulas and Review.
  3. Click on Data Analysis in the Analysis section. If you can’t see this button, you need to enable the Analysis ToolPak first.

  4. Select the analysis tool you want to use. When done, click the OK button to start up the tool.
