Dell Inspiron 1564 BIOS password reset

To discover a working BIOS password for your Dell, enter the Service Tag from your Dell into our password generator tool. The Service Tag will be documented on a small sticker on the bottom, back, or side of your Dell PC. The Service Tag is a 7 digit identifier that is unique to your Dell. The Service Tag is different from the 10 digit Express Service Code. The Dell web site also has a tool to automatically detect your Service Tag.

Dell Optiplex BIOS Password Recovery

The BIOS password may be cleared from a Dell Optiplex by removing the password jumper (PSWD) from the motherboard.

The password jumper’s location on a Dell Optiplex motherboard can be found by reviewing the Optiplex User Guides.

For most Dell Optiplex desktops, the steps to reset a BIOS password and clear all CMOS settings are:

  • Locate the 3-pin CMOS password reset jumper on the system board.
  • Remove the jumper plug from pins 1 and 2.
  • Place the jumper plug on pins 2 and 3 and wait approximately 5 seconds.
  • Replace the jumper plug on pins 1 and 2.

Dell Inspiron BIOS Password Recovery

Each Dell Inspiron has a master password that clears the BIOS password. Call Dell Technical Support at (800)624-9896 to get this number.

Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of the Inspiron.

If the current user is not the original Inspiron owner, Dell will transfer the used Inspiron’s registration from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.

To transfer a used Dell Inspiron’s registration, fill out the Transfer of Ownership form on Dell’s web site.

Dell Latitude BIOS Password Recovery

Christophe Grenier wrote a program that calculates the master BIOS password for Dell Latitudes from the Service Tag number. That program is available here.

If a Latitude cannot be booted to run this program, call Dell Technical Support at (800)624-9896 to get the working password.

Dell Technical Support will request the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the bottom of the Latitude.

If the current user is not the original Latitude owner, Dell will transfer the used Latitude’s registration from the original owner with only the Service Tag and Express Service Code from the tag on the laptop.

To transfer a used Dell Latitude’s registration, fill out the Transfer of Ownership form on Dell’s web site.

Please use the password generator tool above before asking for password in the comments.

  • Never seen it. Removing the CMOS battery for 5-10 should get rid of it though.

  • Removing the battery doesn't work on the Dell Laptops.  You can get a BIOS master password from Dell based on your service tag.  I think there are a few other places you can get the same sort of master password generated, but Dell is probably the easiest, especially if you're the original purchaser.

  • OH Snap, i have the same laptop, i set a bios password years ago and when i recently tried to go into bios it wouldn't accept my password. i tried all the usual ones i would use and nothing. i put it down to being stupid and not remembering what i used, but surely i wasn't so stupid. At least now i know it might not actually be me:)

anyway a battery pull should work i haven't tried simply because i am to lazy to care.

You can't just pull the battery (as in CMOS battery, not just the laptop battery) to reset the password in the bios on a Dell laptop.Another thread has gone on this topic before.

The email support people did send me two or three passwords to try, but they didn't work.  Again, it's out of warranty and it isn't a big deal, but I'm just curious.

  • Wasnt aware you couldn't pull cmos on a dell laptop, that sucks no way i can call support would of been out of warranty yonks ago!!! yayyy inaccessible bios!

  • @AlanPA,

Do you mind if I take a shot at it? If so, DM me your service tag and email address. I want to take a look at the password format that our support provided to you. Also, what exactly happens when you try a master password? Does it give you an error? Or do you put in the password, hit enter and nothing happens?

    @Cappilio,

Feel free to DM me with your service tag and email address. We can still provide a master password even if you're out of warranty.

  • Excellent Justin, Not at home with the laptop at the moment but il send you a message in a few hours!

  • On modern laptops "Removing the CMOS battery" just isn't a way to reset a bios password anymore. You may still be able to do it on some desktop systems, but on laptops, it just doesn't work anymore and hasn't work for quite a few years.

As "Justin @ Dell" suggests, you can use the service tag and a code displayed on the screen when you try to enter the password; to generate a working password using a special software.

Greetings, Sorry, Kioskea cannot help you to recover your BIOS password. All the reasons are explained in the below link.
