Issue

When you install Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products the More Info dialog displays the following error, "Error 1605. This action is only valid for products that are currently installed." The following error message will also appear in the installation log:

MsiConfigureProductEx failed with error: 1605

Reason

A shared technology used by the Adobe Creative Suite 4 installer is missing information required to complete a repair process. The missing MSI product code is causing the error to occur during installation.

Solution

Solution 1: Uninstall and reinstall the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Products.

Choose Start > Control Panel.

Remove the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or Point Product:
- On Windows XP
  1. Double click Add Or Remove Programs.
  2. Select the CS4 Product and click Change/Remove.
- On Windows Vista
  1. Double click Features And Programs.
  2. Select the CS4 product and click Uninstall.

Follow the on screen instructions to complete the uninstall.

Solution 2: Run the CS5 Cleaner Tool.

If the Adobe Creative Suite 4 uninstaller is unable to remove the product you can manually remove the product by using the Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool. The Adobe CS5 Cleaner Tool helps resolve installation problems for Adobe Creative Suite 5, Adobe Creative Suite 4, and Adobe Creative Suite 3 software. I am attempting to install B1 8.8 on a system that currently have B1 2007A installed. When I try to installed the Server Tools the system display the following error message: "Error: -1605 This action is only valid for products that are currently installed". The B1 2007A is installed and fully working. Any ideas anyone?

Solution 1:
Delete the following entries in the registry:

On a 32-bit Windows Operating System:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{DA485AC8-BACB-492D-9B1E-14AA5B61597E}

On a 64-bit Windows Operating System:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\InstallShield_{DA485AC8-BACB-492D-9B1E-14AA5B61597E}

Delete the following folder:
C:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{DA485AC8-BACB-492D-9B1E-14AA5B61597E}

Try the upgrade again. If the error still persists, try Solution 2.

Solution 2:

Run the Manager installation directly from the manager directory invoking manager.msi with proper parameters.

Open a command line and execute the following:
msiexec.exe /i"E:\itcmr12\WindowsProductFiles_x86\Manager\Manager.msi" /l*v "C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\DSMUpgradeManager.log" REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS REINSTALLMODE=vomus REINSTALL=ALL MASTERSETUP=1 CAF_INSTALL_SERVICE=0 CAF_START_SERVICE=0 SC_DSMPROP=1 DSM_LANGUAGE="enu"

Ensure that the paths have the correct drive for your environment (e.g."E:\").

Note: If the upgrade completes successfully, run the "DSMVER" command, to check whether the ITCM has been properly upgraded or re-installed.
